Well this changes everything...

So, I am off to London tomorrow to see Kate Rusby play, and to spend some quality amiga-time with KH.  I have it all planned out but the sudden news that it's to pour with rain all weekend - I confirmed with BBC weather, and it looks like it's true - kind of threw me and I had to rethink all the clothes I'm going to take.  Obviously I want to take the minimum cause it's only 2 days and I thought I could float about in dresses and sandals - totally lightweight!  But now that it's to rain I have to think waterproof and warm.  My fave (and only) boots have holes in the soles (again) so I ran to the cobblers this morning and flashed a winning smile and he agreed to re-sole and re-heel them for tomorrow morning.  So shoe-wear is sorted, and if I stick in some tights I can still go with the dresses and just sling my mac over the top, even though it could do with a dry clean.

However!

One of the things I'd thought of doing was going to be in the audience for The Wright Stuff - my unemployment means that I watch it pretty much every morning now, and they're always giving you the number to call if you want free tickets.  But I forgot to call and I figured that today was too short notice - until I logged on to Facebook and two mins later a notice from The Wright Stuff page said they were still looking for audience members!  So I rang them straight up and left a message, and now I'm just waiting on someone calling back to confirm.  KH has the day off work so I hope she'll be up for it, I think it'll be great fun, I'm really looking forward to it!  So now I need to find something awesome to wear cause I'm gonna be on TV!

First the World War Z extras audition; now The Wright Stuff... maybe I'm meant for a career in show biz after all! ;-)

Rain Rain, Go Away

I can't believe the weather.  Rain, mad winds, SNOW!  What is going on with the world?!  My mum reckons it's a reaction to the earthquakes in Japan, and when you think of it in that context it's really not so bad over here, is it?

When I first moved back from Spain, I went straight out and bought myself a nice pair of shiny purple wellies.  That was a year and a half ago, and I suppose I've had good wear out of them, but even so, why-oh-why did they have to get holes in them now?   Just when I thought I'd be retiring them to the back of the wardrobe, suddenly all this rain came and I had to put them on again.  And now, they have holes, in both feet.  It's just the plastic has cracked and so the water seeps in a bit, which, frankly defeats the point, and so it's come to this:  I'm looking for a new pair of wellies to buy, in mid-March.

The only ones I've seen so far are on the Office website, and they have quite a few.  The problem is, I'm not sure if they'll have the same ones in-store or if you can only buy them online now.  I think this time I'm going to go for a more neutral colour, because, as much as I loved my purple ones, sometimes I was put off wearing them because they just didn't go with my outfit.  I guess you can't really go wrong in black, though I'm thinking that if I end up wearing them through the summer (god forbid!!), then maybe I'd actually rather have a nice bright pair.

On the other hand, if I'm still wearing wellies in June-July-August, I don't think I'll care what bloody colour they are!!

So, here are the contenders for my new pair:

These ones are shiny black, with a fuzzy bit round the top, which would be nice, I guess.  These ones come in at £30.

And these ones are also shiny black, but in fake crocodile print, which I'm not sure I'll like when I see them properly.  These are £30, too.

Hmm, I guess I'll go in and see what they have in store.  I'm pretty reluctant to even spend money on new wellies at this time of year, but I get the feeling that if I don't buy them then I'll regret it, cause this crappy weather might just keep getting worse! Argh!

Good Morning, Baltimore!

Working again today, 12 - 6, which is good cause it'll give me an extra 2 hours (I was meant to be at 2) to make up for the 4 I lost at the last min on Monday.

There's a list of things to do today, so I might get fired into them straight away (well, after a coffee, of course) and get them out of the way.  I think HM is popping in today to get some wool and knitting needles for the Sit and Knit A Bit thing.  Remember folks, it's not too late, you can still do a square and send it in!

Haven't really woken up yet and don't know what I'm talking about!  But I just read an email from EW saying she going to come over and read my blog and I realised I haven't posted anything for a couple of days, so I thought I'd better come up with something!

We were round saying bye to MM last night, which was pretty sad. She's away to London for the day today, and then back on Sunday to start more treatment.  It's always hard seeing her go, and last night was no exception.  She's still being so strong and brave but it must be getting harder and harder for her.  Hopefully after this last round of treatment things will settle down more.  All positive thoughts will be gratefully received...

If I've time today I'm going to try on the dress from work (safely stashed in the back so no evil customer can get it) and if it fits and it's not uber long then I'll just buy it for Lyn's wedding in June.  Then all I have to think about is getting out to Valencia for a week beforehand to get a good ole beach-flavoured tan!  Any excuse to get back out there... I've been slowly but steadily convincing KM to come with me, and the flights I've seen so far are fairly cheap.  Plus we'd be crashing at Party Central, LT's flat, which is must cheaper than hotels etc.  Even though we might end up spending the same amount of money on Cosmo ingredients.   Money well spent, no doubt about it!

I haven't even opened my curtains yet but it sounds like it's raining outside.  In terms of usage vs. money paid for them, the purple wellies I bought in my first week after I moved back from Spain ('ARGH! Rain! I forgot about this stuff...waterproof shoes, macs, brollies, aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!') have been a total winner.  I just take my tiny fold-up shoes in my bag to wear at work and wear the wellies to get in.  Nothing worse than working all day with soggy socks and trews.

Right better go and get showered, today feels like  day for a hairband in order to avoid washing my hair.  You gotta love those days...

Oh yeah, seeing as today is officially Beer Thursday, if anyone fancies a pint about 6pm tonight in the west end or town, give me a shout!  Good times.

Pristene

... after a nail-biting examination of my dress, I am pleased to report that I managed to trudge through the pouring rain after the party, and, even after substantial amounts of fizz and one misguided cocktail (you can't make a Cosmo with rum instead of vodka, as it turns out), I managed to hold my dress up and not get a single stain or splash-mark on it.

Even when pissed I have one instinctive thought:  protect the dress, at all costs.
