I bought a packet of blank CDs the other day and only needed one out of the packet of ten, so I figured this was a good time to finally back up my laptop, seeing as it's been telling me to for months now. Unfortunately, I underestimated how long it would take! I'm already on my third CD and it's only backed up 35% so far. And it is slow. It also keeps making weird beeping noises and random bursts of fan air that I'm not too happy about. How ironic it would be if my laptop blew up whilst I was trying to back it up!
It's a horrible day today, all wet and rainy and grey. I can't believe this is June! I think when it was raining in May everyone thought it would pass and we'd still get a real summer... now we're all reluctantly coming to the conclusion that we've had our summer and we should have made more of the two sunny weeks in April, 'cause it's rain all the way from here til October!
Today I'm going to be finishing off my job application - I know I've said this before but I think I've a really good shot at getting this one! I've actually done the application but now I'm going back in to check over my answers. Collective fingers crossed for me if you don't mind!
I'm also planning a bid for a charity grant - there's a competition run by Avon and Glamour Magazine which gives away three grants of £10,000 to a someone working with a registered charity, with a plan that will directly benefit women. Well, I'm not giving too much away at the moment cause it's all still in the ideas stage, but if I get it off the ground I'll let you know. I don't really have any idea how you go about making pitches for this kind of grant, might check out the website and see if they have any tips.
Oh, I finally figured out how to edit videos so they can be uploaded to YouTube - turns out I had Microsoft Movie Maker already installed on my laptop! It took a bit of practice to figure out how to work it and do what I wanted, but I finally did it - there are loads of video tutorials online to help you use this software and I tried about 15 of them and they were all pretty useless. Especially the one done by some kid who must be some kind of computer genius, but is also a big pain in the backside! I do not recommend his video if you have low tolerance of annoying children!!
I made a video (well, I persuaded my brother to film it) of our Glasgow Symphony Orchestra concert - I wanted to show my friend ED the flute trio that we played, as he missed it. But the video was too long to upload, so now that I've finally split it up you can watch it here, here, and here if you fancy a bit of orchestral loveliness to brighten your Monday.
